Discovering the Creepiest and Coolest Things in New Homes: Haunting Spiders and Mystery Sounds
Searching for a new home can be an exciting yet daunting experience. After relocating to our current household, an interesting exploration of the property led to some peculiar, unforeseen discoveries. One such adventure converted a simple property search into a journey through time and mini-adventures, full of life, fear, and the unknown.
Unearthing a WWII Propeller in the Coolest Corner
Upon moving into my current abode, I decided to explore the garage without the clutter of the previous owner's possessions, setting the scene for an encounter that would leave my imagination buzzing for years to come. The house was spotless, but the garage held something truly intriguing. Adorning the walls were decals from the United States Air Force (USAF), and model airplanes hung from the ceiling, creating a nostalgic backdrop that hinted at the past. However, it was the 6-foot-long wooden propeller in the loft, mounted opposite the billowing, cobweb-clay spiders, that truly caught the eye. I called the previous owner, inquiring if he wished to reclaim his treasures. In a cross-country move, he couldn’t take them back; instead, he shared the aircraft’s history from World War II.
Four decades later, the propeller and spiders still stand sentry in the garage, reminding me of a time when the house held stories of its past. For someone who doesn’t appreciate arachnids, this peculiar setup frequently triggers a scene of arachnophobia.
Following the Unusual Dings of a Legal Gun Retrainment
Another surprising discovery centered around my wife's deceased husband's legal gun collection and the tools and equipment he used for his retraining efforts. As a gun lover, I found this collection fascinating, especially since I've continued to use some of his items. However, while going through the pole barn, I stumbled upon something truly bizarre - mummified critters. These unsettling findings were added to the eerie ambiance, as the occasional creepy sounds echoed within the barn. To ensure my safety, I entered with a Bible in hand rather than a rifle.
A Haunting House: Noises and Historical Secrets
During a separate move, in 1995, I found myself living in a two-story, old house in Queens. It was an experience filled with unsettling occurrences, mirroring the events of a previous home. Layoffs led me to spend months alone, unemployed and living in the house with nine other people. I began to hear strange noises, especially at night, that seemed to crescendo as I lay in bed.
A woman residing in the house also reported hearing the same footsteps and mysterious noises. Eventually, sharing these sounds with the property owner, she discovered that her husband and son had been drug dealers, leading to their untimely demise inside the house. This chilling revelation led the wife to relocate to Florida. Upon taking rent, we were required to deposit the money in a bank account located in an expensive neighborhood. The house not only became old, but also foreboding, leading everyone to vacate the premises.
These haunting experiences keep the memories alive, and every now and then, as I walk past the house, I can't help but feel that the house sends shivers down my spine. The noises I once heard now haunt me, serving as a reminder of the mysteries that lurk within old, seemingly ordinary homes.
Exploring new properties can indeed lead to discovering the coolest and creepiest things, adding layers to the narrative of each home we encounter, forever etching them into our memories.
